A special court Wednesday remanded Asif Khan Bashir Khan alias Junaid, the alleged prime conspirator in the July 11 train blasts case, to police custody till October 13.

Junaid, arrested under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act from Belgaum in Karnataka Tuesday, was Wednesday produced before designated judge Mrudala Bhatkar with a muffled face amidst tight security.

In accordance with Supreme Court guidelines, Junaid was medically examined before he was produced in court. When asked by the judge, the accused said he had no complaints against the police. Prosecutor Raja Thakre sought his police custody, saying the Anti-Terrorist Squad probing the blasts needed to interrogate him.

Junaid is suspected to have planted a bomb in one of the targetted seven suburban trains and was said to be a key conspirator. With his arrest, the number of suspects held in connection with the blasts has gone up to 16.

Junaid is allegedly an activist of banned Students Islamic Movement of India and hails from Jalgaon in North Maharashtra. He was one of the three absconding Indians accused in the case.

Seven bombs ripped through commuter trains during peak evening hours, killing nearly 200 people.
