The Supreme Court monitoring committee on sealing on Tuesday carried out random checks of premises owned by over 18,000 traders who filed applications stating they had stopped commercial activities in residential properties.
The panel carried out inspections in "core areas" in south and central zones of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, including those in Greater Kailash and Lajpat Nagar, sources said.
The committee will continue its checking of some more premises on Wednesday before submitting a report to the court prior to the hearing on Thursday, they said adding, it had already carried out such actions in Karol Bagh and Vikas Marg among other areas.
The court granted more time for checkings following a request by the panel.
The court had on November 15 said it would consider giving some relief to about 25,000 traders who have submitted an affidavit to voluntarily close their shops if they filed applications that they had stopped misuse of their residential premises.
The apex court had then asked the panel to conduct random checks at the premises of those who have given such undertakings and file its report on or before November 20.
Meanwhile, the civic body completed sealings in Hans Gupta Marg in posh Greater Kailash-I in south Delhi. Twenty properties were targetted in the area on Tuesday, including Airtel Guest House.
A total 121 properties were sealed during the day, out of which 101 were in Najafgarh-Nangloi road in West Delhi. The prominent properties include one of Eicher's.
A total of 1,266 properties were sealed in Delhi since the resumption of the drive on November 8.
Meanwhile, the leaders of Confederation of All India Traders met Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy and urged him to regularise 1,470 unauthorised colonies in Delhi where traders are operating their establishments.
