The Supreme Court-appointed monitoring panel on sealing on Monday submitted its report on the applications filed by more than 18,000 traders facing closure of their shops in Delhi as the trading community waited with bated breath for the apex court hearing on Tuesday.

The report was submitted after the Municipal Corporation of Delhi forwarded the panel a total of 18,305 applications by traders stating that they had stopped misuse of their premises for commercial purposes.

The panel submitted the report in the Supreme Court registry late in the evening after going through the applications and a detailed

report on the matter by the MCD, sources said. The panel has also been, over the last two days, undertaking random checking of some of the traders' premises who have given the applications to check the veracity of their claims.

Out of the around 25,000 traders who had earlier given undertakings stating they will voluntarily close shops, about 18,305 have filed the new applications, MCD officials said. The court had said it would consider giving some relief to those traders who file new applications after going through the panel's report on the matter.

While 4,834 applications were submitted in the west zone, the city zone comprising the walled city areas received the least number of undertakings.
