The management of Apollo Hospitals would stand firmly behind its doctors and staff who were recently chargesheeted in the Rahul Mahajan case in New Delhi, managing director of the group Preeta Reddy said on Monday.

"We will firmly back all the doctors and other Apollo hospital staff chargesheeted in the case," Reddy told reporters on the sidelines of a function in Gandhinagar.

"Our doctors did what they would do to any patient who comes to the hospital in an emergency," she said adding, the hospital had "never hidden facts" relating to the case.

"When Rahul was brought almost half dead, the priority of the staff was to save his life," she contended.

"The whole episode is unfortunate. It appears to be politically motivated," said Reddy, who was in Gandhinagar for the inauguration of a comprehensive blood and cancer centre atĀ Apollo HospitalĀ along with Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss.

Reddy claimed the group treated about 2,00,000 patients every year at its 34 medical centres across the country.

When asked if the image of Apollo Hospitals had taken a beating after the Rahul episode, Reddy said, "I don't think that the image of the hospitals have been affected in any manner. The medical fraternity and patients associated with us know that we provide quality healthcare services."
