Served summons by a local court on charges of tampering evidence in the Rahul Mahajan drug abuse case, Apollo Hospital said it had done "no wrong" and welcomed the "opportunity to bring forth the facts".

"Indraprastha Apollo Hospital reiterates that it has done no wrong in the entire case," the hospital said in a statement in New Delhi.

Contending that the public and the court had heard just one side of the story, it said "we welcome the opportunity to bring forth the facts.

"The hospital saved the life of a young man, which was the prime objective of the healthcare provider. Saving people's life is inherent to the ethos and culture of the hospital".

The hospital said it had to act when faced with situations where a split second decision could make the difference between life and death.

The hospital management said the court had issued the summonses and "we have the right to examine and explore all possibilities therein within permissible limits".

A chargesheet naming the Apollo Hospital Management, including six of its doctors, was filed in a Delhi court today incorporating fresh charges of destruction and fabrication of evidence in the Mahajan drug abuse case.

The additional charges inserted in the fresh chargesheet also included the name of Harish Sharma, a close aide of late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, who can now be tried in the case.
