The Union Cabinet met on Thursday but the controversial ordinance to redefine an office of profit did not come up for discussion, sources said.

"Nothing was discussed," some Union ministers said, when asked whether the ordinance had come up for consideration at the meeting. It was held a day after the abrupt sine die adjournment of Parliament in the wake of the controversy over the office of profit issue.

They also parried questions on whether the government was recommending to President A P J Abdul Kalam to prorogue the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.

The Opposition National Democratic Alliance had marched to Rashtrapati Bhavan and petitioned the President not to give his consent to any ordinance on the issue. They alleged that Parliament had been adjourned sine die only for the purpose of 'saving' Sonia Gandhi from certain disqualification as member of Parliament.
