Launching her party's election campaign, Sonia Gandhi on Saturday attacked the Communist Party of India-Marxist for "obstructing" the United Democratic Front government in Kerala.

The CPI-M is an ally of the Congress-led central government.

Addressing a massive rally at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi, Sonia Gandhi said, "The party that is supporting us at the Centre is our main rival in Kerala, West Bengal and Tripura."

It was not easy for the UDF to fulfill its promises to the people as the main opposition party had tried to "obstruct" it at "every single step".

But despite that the UDF managed to fulfill most of the promises, she said.

The Congress president said Kerala has begun to attract investments.

"Without investments, you cannot have economic growth and without economic growth, you cannot generate employment, especially for youth," she said.

Giving a pat to the UDF government for starting several professional colleges in the state, she said this would be of great help to young boys and girls who need not have to depend on neighbouring states for their higher studies.

Tourism has expanded creating new jobs. Programmes like Akshya will help in the development of Information technology, she said.

Efforts are also being made to encourage Kerala to become an IT centre so that the state can compete with other states and will succeed in becoming the top state in the IT sector, she said.
