June 28, 2006 20:11 IST

Applauding the passage of the crucial bill on Indo-US nuclear accord in a key Congressional panel, the Bush administration has said the action showed "overwhelming support" for the deal initialled between the two countries.

"We applaud passage of a bipartisan bill out of the House International Relations Committee. The action shows overwhelming support for the deal negotiated during the (US) President's historic trip to (India in March), one that underscores a new relationship with India," a senior administration official told PTI in Washington.

"We look forward to House passage soon," the official, who did not want to be named, said.

The House International Relations Committee gave an overwhelming endorsement to the US-India Nuclear Coooperation Act of 2006 by approving the bi-partisan bill on the deal by a vote of 37 to 5 and sending it to the full floor of the House for debate and vote, which is anticipated sometime in July.
