Intermittent rains continued to lash Mumbai for the second day on Thursday waterlogging several low-lying areas and partially disrupting road and rail traffic.

The city experienced moderate to heavy showers since Wednesday night and again on Thursday, throwing normal life out of gear.

After the major disruption of suburban and long-distance trains on Central Railway lines following the snapping of overhead electric wire due to lightning, services were restored though suburban trains were running 15 to 20 minutes behind schedule.

Long-distance trains on the Konkan route were delayed by as much as 13 hours, a railway spokesman said.

The Colaba observatory recorded 118 mm of rainfall from 8.30 am on Wednesday till 8.30 this morning, while the Santacruz observatory recorded 180.4 mm of rainfall during the same period.

Except for few cases of trees falling, no mishap was reported since Wednesday night, fire brigade officials said.

The Met office said rain and thundershowers will continue in the Konkan area -- which is receiving heavy rainfall since the early onset of the monsoons -- till Friday.
