The Prime Minister's Office has denied that Jaswant Singh had named the 'mole' in his letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

"No such name has been given by Jaswant Singh," the prime minister's media adviser Sanjaya Baru told reporters in Delhi.

Baru said since Saturday many sections of the media have been reporting that some name had been given to the prime minister by Jaswant Singh, in an apparent reference to the former external affairs minister's claim in Mumbai on Saturday that he had revealed the name of the 'mole' in P V Narasimha Rao's regime who had leaked nuclear secrets to the US.

Baru said Jaswant's letter to the pime mnister was no different from what he has already shared with the media.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said the former external affairs minister had not named the "alleged informant" in the PMO who leaked nuclear secrets and there was no confirmation that the person was from the PMO during P V Narasimha Rao's tenure.

The pime mnister also said he was surprised that Jaswant had not shared the material in his possession as a Cabinet minister with the then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

"The document which you sent me is not an original document and has no signature or letterhead," Dr Singh said in a short reply on Sunday to Jaswant.

"I have received your letter of July 28 regarding an informant in the PMO in the mid 1990s," the prime minister said in his reply to Jaswant written on Sunday.

"Simultaneously, I find that a copy of the letter has been published in the latest issue of India Today. It's the same letter which has been addressed to the prime minister. No other information has been given," he said.
