Karnataka Chief Minister Dharam Singh will face a floor test in the assembly as the Congress does not want him to resign to pave the way for smooth ushering in of Janata Dal (Secular)-Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state.

Addressing a press conference in Bangalore, Congress general secretary A K Antony said the Congress was not here to welcome formation of a BJP-JD(S) government without a debate in the assembly to make it easy for them.

"We want to explain to the people of Karnataka that the new alliance is not good for social harmony or for development," he said.

Calling the action of the majority legisators of JD-S to go with the BJP as a "betrayal" of the Congress and the people, Antony said his party was prepared to sit in the opposition, but not without giving up the fight.
