The 79 Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party legislators are united in backing a non-Congress government led by H D Kumaraswamy and are confident that the recent talks between Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and H D Deve Gowda would not have any impact on the stand of Janata Dal-Secular MLAs, two senior BJP leaders said Wednesday.

After offering worship at the Sri Meenakshi Temple in Madurai along with 65 MLAs, Katta Subramania Naidu, leader of the BJP's Karnataka Legislature party and State general secretary Aravindha Limbavali, told newsmen "with the blessings of Goddess Meenakshi, a non-Congress government would definitely be formed in the state".

They were also confident that the talks between Sonia and Deve Gowda would not have any impact or bring any change in the stand taken by the JD-S MLAs led by Kumaraswamy to withdraw support to the Congress-led coalition government.

"Our leaders are talking to Kumaraswamy who is also firm on forming a new government with BJP support," the leaders said.

Asked why the BJP, which was the largest group in the assembly with 79 MLAS, could not form the government by itself, the leaders said they lacked majority.

"We have got instructions to support the non-Congress government, and we will support them," they said.
