The government will take note of the concerns expressed by Atomic Energy Commission Chief Anil Kakodkar over the Indo-US nuclear deal recently because it involved New Delhi's strategic interests, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee said Wednesday.

"He (Kakodkar) has given an opinion that these are the areas of concern and surely we will have to take note of that," Mukherjee told reporters on the sidelines of an award function in Mumbai.

Recently, Kakodkar said India's concessions to the US under a landmark nuclear agreement between the two countries
could compromise New Delhi's strategic interests.

"We cannot allow India's strategic interest to be determined by others," he had said.

Asked whether Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had sought a clarification from Kakodkar, Mukherjee said, "I do not know. See, he raised a question and the government should take note of that opinion. The government will take a decision soon and it will be a collective decision."
