Prohibitory orders were imposed and police lobbed tear gas shells at Kailaras, 45 kms from Morena on Tuesday, after angry relatives of victims of a bus fire attacked a police station even as a magisterial probe was ordered into the tragedy.

Though eye-witnesses claimed that 20 passengers of a private bus were killed in the fire Monday evening, Chambal division Commissioner, J T Ekka confirmed that 15 charred bodies were retrieved from the vehicle gutted in the fire suspected to be triggered by cooking gas cylinder blast.

Ekka said a magisterial probe would be conducted into the incident by Sabalgarh sub-divisional officer Rajendra Sharma.

Prohibitory orders were clamped to prevent any major violence in the town, after a mob of victims' relatives and residents mounted a fresh attack on Kailaras police station and indulged in stone pelting, he said.

In a bid to disperse the crowd, police fired several rounds of teargas shells, official sources said, adding that addtional forces were deployed to maintain law and order.

Protestors, alleging negligence on the part of police and fire-brigade in dousing the blaze in the private bus, had attacked the municipality office, fire brigade centre and office of Sub-Divisional officer of Police, besides the Kailaras police station Monday night, sources said.

Several government vehicles and buildings were damaged as the crowd indulged in stone throwing and tried to set them afire, they said adding that the situation at present was under control and senior administrative and police officials are camping in Kailaras.
