The Karnataka Legislative Assembly has been convened to meet on February 8, when Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy would seek a confidence vote, to comply with a directive of Governor T N Chaturvedi to prove his majority on the floor of the House.

The assembly, which was adjourned sine die, amidst uproar after former Chief Minister N Dharam Singh did not seek a vote of confidence within the January 27 deadline set by the governor, would meet at 1030 hours, a legislature secretariat release said.

Kumaraswamy, who was sworn in chief minister at the head of Janata Dal (Secular)-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition government Friday, has been asked by the governor to prove his majority within eight days from the day of assuming office.

The Congress-JDS government had collapsed after Kumaraswamy led a revolt in his party and withdrew support to it and joined hands with the BJP to form an alternative government.
