The new Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said on Friday that he would seek a vote of confidence in the Assembly on February 8. It would be a one-day session to seek the trust vote, he told reporters after the customary Cabinet meeting.

The meeting was held after he was sworn in as chief minister and Bharatiya Janata Party's Yediyurappa as deputy chief minister. Governor T N Chaturvedi had asked Kumaraswamy to prove his majority within eight days of his ascension of office.

A joint session of the state legislature would also be convened later, which would be addressed by the Governor, outlining priorities of the Janata Dal (Secular)-BJP government, which assumed office on Friday, following the collapse of the Congress-JDS ministry, headed by N Dharam Singh.
