After the historic Town Hall in Kolkata, Parliament is set to have a high-tech 'story-telling museum' in 2006, depicting Indian history from the ancient times to Independence through virtual reality simulations.
Announcing this at a press conference in the Town Hall, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee said the museum will be set up by 'Kolkata Panorama' which set up a similar museum at the Town Hall.
The museum in Parliament is scheduled to open for the public on Independence Day next year.
Chatterjee said leaders of various political parties have recently approved an 'elaborate' concept plan, prepared by Dr Sarjo Ghosh, who was instrumental behind setting up the country's first 'Science City' in Kolkata.
An estimated Rs 4 crore would be spent on the project.
As per the plans, the visitors will enter the museum through a recreated archaeological site and explore how self-
governing democratic societies evolved in ancient India.
Visitors will then move through an early 20th century period setting depicting the people's aspiration for self-governance and will take part in a sound-light-video actuated freedom movement.
Those visiting the museum will be able to study important features of the constitution through computer interactives.
