An Air India Airbus flight landed under 'full emergency conditions' at Chennai airport on Friday, following a fire alarm, which ultimately turned out to be false, airport and AI sources said.

The A-310 flight on the Singapore-Kuala Lumpur-Chennai sector was carrying 65 passengers and eight crew members.

However, on examination, after the plane landed on one engine, it was found that it was a 'false alarm' and that the engine was 'okay', AI sources said.

Airports Authority of India Airport Director, H S Bains, told PTI that a few kilometres from the Chennai airport, the pilot was alerted by a fire alarm in one of the plane's engines and immediately alerted Chennai airport authorities.

The AAI took all emergency measures to ensure that the plane landed safely, he said, adding that the pilot adopted the 'mandatory procedures' in such cases and made a safe landing with just one engine at about 1300 hrs.
