The Forensic Science Laboratory at Chandigarh has given a clean chit to Bollywood stars Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai in the Salman-Aishwarya tape case, exposed in early July.

The lab report says that the voice samples of the two stars do not match with the voices in the alleged tape, that had Khan purpotedly threatening Rai of dire consequences if she did not perform in a show organised by underworld dons abroad.

"We received the report two days ago and it says that the voice samples of the stars do not match with the tape," K L Bishnoi, additional police commissioner (economic offences wing), Mumbai, told PTI on Friday.

In the alleged tape, voices similar to Salman and Aishwarya in conversation, showed Salman boasting of links with the underworld and claiming that he had prior knowledge of the 1992 bomb blasts in Mumbai.

Bishnoi said once the laboratory concluded that voice samples do not match, the probe into the involvement of the two stars was almost complete. But the probe into other issues will continue, he added.

After the contents of the tapes were reported in a national daily, the state government had ordered a probe to check if the voice samples of the stars matched with those in the tapes, if the controversial tape was leaked from the electronic surveillance data of Mumbai police, and if Salman really had prior knowledge of the bomb blasts.
