Slight intensity tremors shook the Rudraprayag region of Uttaranchal late on Monday night, Meteorological Department said.
The temblor, measuring 3.6 on the Richter Scale, was experienced at 2152 IST, the Met office said.
The epicentre of the earthquake was located at 30.5 degrees North on the latitude and 79.2 degrees East on the longitude.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property because of the quake.
