The Uri-Kaman Post road, which was badly damaged by the recent earthquake in Jammu and Kashmir, will be thrown open to light motor vehicles within one week, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said on Thursday.

"Work on the road is going on extensively," Sayeed said after visiting the quake-ravaged Uri sector to assess the relief operations.

The chief minister, however, said the bridge connecting Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to this side, Aman Setu, will take some time to be repaired.

In the meantime, an alternate causeway is being suggested to facilitate the movement, he said.

Sayeed, who was in Delhi recently, said he impressed upon Prime Minister Manmohan Singh the need to make the joint relief centres along the Line of Control for PoK operational immediately.

"It will be easier to access the areas of Chakothi and neelam valley from Uri and Tangdhar sectors and the people there are badly in need of the relief, he said.

Asserting the army was ready to start the cross-LoC relief operations, Sayeed said an Indian delegation, which includes Jammu and Kashmir Resident Commissioner will hold talks on the cross-LoC relief operations with their Pakistani counterparts on October 29.
