Four children were pulled out, miraculously alive, from the rubble of quake-hit houses in Pakistan's north western Balakot town, eight days after the earthquake struck, killing thousands. The children, aged between a few months and nine years, were rescued on Sunday.

"Four children have been pulled out alive in Balakot area," Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao was quoted as saying by Daily Times newspaper.

Rescuers on Sunday also pulled out a polio-stricken baby girl from the rubble of her home in the village of Sanger, Balakot. Two brothers of the girl led soldiers to the house where she was trapped.

Defence Spokesman Major General Shaukat Sultan said, "She is absolutely fine." However, he did not know the baby's age. He said there was still hope, however remote, of finding survivors.
