The 17-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped by a police constable inside a police post in Marine Drive, withdrew her petition on Friday from the Bombay High Court seeking compensation of Rs 15 lakh after she was paid Rs five lakh by the Maharashtra government.

The state government had informed the High Court that it had already paid Rs three lakh on September 23 to the victim.

The state government had said it has paid the amount as per the suo motu order of the State Human Rights Commission to pay Rs three lakh as compensation and hence the petition seeking compensation should be dismissed.

Hearing the matter, the bench headed by Chief Justice Dalveer Bhandari said that any order of the dismissal of petition would be taken only after reply from the victim.

A constable posted at Marine Drive police station in south Mumbai, was held on charges of allegedly raping a minor girl on April 21 inside a police post located on the Marine Drive. He was subsequently dismissed from service, which he had challenged in Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal.
