The Border Security Force on Saturday said it will adopt four villages in Uri and Tangdhar areas of Jammu and Kashmir, which were badly damaged in last Saturday's killer earthquake.

"The BSF will adopt four villages in Uri and Tangdhar areas and provide all help in reconstruction and rehabilitation," BSF Director General R S Mooshahary said after visiting the quake-ravaged areas.

Mooshahary said while two villages had been identified for adoption, the assessment of other two villages was in progress.

"The villages will be adopted based on the extent of damage and their proximity to BSF battalions in the area. We want to take good care of them and for that they should be accessible to our men," he said.

Mooshahary said the BSF officers and jawans were doing their best in relief operations in Uri and Tangdhar despite suffering losses of its own in terms of men and property.

"BSF has lost nine personnel and 55 others were injured in the devastating earthquake. But our men are doing their best to provide succour to affected population of Uri and Tangdhar areas," the DG BSF said.

"Besides helping the families of our own jawans, we are also providing relief material like blankets and ration to the common people as well," he added.

Asked if militants were taking advantage of the earthquake to infiltrate, Mooshahary said "Not that it is happening but they will be making attempts."
