Demanding immediate deployment of army in violence-affected Mau town, the Bharatiya Janata Party, on Saturday, called for the dismissal of the Mulayam Singh government for failing to prevent communal riots.

Speaking to reporters, BJP's national vice-president Kalyan Singh alleged that members of a particular community were hiding in seminaries and religious places and 'firing at innocent people'.

"The administration was desisting from taking any firm action, perhaps at the instruction of the state government and only the Army could restore order there," he said.

The president of Uttar Pradesh unit of the BJP, Kesari Nath Tripathi, claimed that five Hindus have been killed and property worth lakhs damanged in the town, since communal riots broke out there.

Singh and Tripathi said that situation in the town has deteriorated since Friday and 'if no step was taken to check the situation immediately, it could affect the peace of the state for which the state government would be solely responsible'.
