A major fire broke out in an high rise apartment in south Mumbai in the early hours of Saturday.

Nearly 15 fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire, which broke out in the sixth floor of the Carmichael House around 0200 hours.

No casualties were reported in the incident.

Initial investigations suggest that the blast may have been caused due to a short circuit.

The apartment was evacuated immediately and power supply to the area had been temporarily disconnected.

About 10 buildings in the neighbourhood, where noted singer Lata Mangeshkar and many top businessmen also reside, were evacuated on a precautionary measure.
