Key roads connecting quake-hit Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and the North West Frontier Province, which were blocked by heavy landslides, were reopened on Monday facilitating transport of relief supplies to the areas.

Pakistan's Frontier Works Organization reopened the vital links, a Defence spokesman said.

The road links reopened for all kinds of traffic include Mansehra-Balakot and Mansehra-Garhi Habibullah- Muzaffarabad roads, he said.

With the opening of these road links in the quake-hit areas, the ongoing relief operation will begin in full swing, he said.

The Murree-Kohala-Muzaffarabad road has been opened for light traffic. Pakistan has pressed over 25 helicopters for relief operations in its remote quake-hit areas cut off by landslides and desperately appealed for cargo helicopters to rush the injured to hospitals.

US President George Bush on Sunday authorised the US defence ministry to send six helicopters, which Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson, Tasleem Aslam said would arrive on Monday from Afghanistan.
