'Recall of Buta must be a collective UPA decision'
October 07, 2005 23:55 IST

The Congress said, on Friday night, that a decision to recall Bihar Governor Buta Singh following the Supreme Court's declaration of the dissolution of the state Assembly as unconstitutional has to be collectively taken by United Progressive Alliance constituents, as well as parties supporting the UPA from outside.

"You must realise that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is heading a coalition government of which 22 parties are constituents. And there are other parties supporting it from outside. Therefore, a decision in such a matter cannot be taken by an individual or by a certain party of UPA. This has to be a collective decision," Congress general secretary Ambika Soni said in a television interview.

Denying any pressure on the Congress for continuing with Buta Singh as Governor, Soni said a collective decision would be taken once copies of the apex court judgement were made available.
