How has the Internet changed your life?

November 17, 2005 11:59 IST

The first World Wide Web page was written 15 years ago.

On November 13, 1990. By Tim Berners-Lee, a British software programmer.

Sir Tim -- a computer geek (who else? :) ), who built his first computer using an old television set and who was barred from using the Oxford University computer network, where he was studying, because of his tendency to hack -- had for nearly a decade been mulling over the concept of linking hypertext and the Internet.

'I just had to take the hypertext idea and connect it to the TCP and DNS ideas and — ta-da! — the World Wide Web,' was how he put it.

Work on the project commenced on November 13 and the first web site -- http://info.cern.ch/ came online on August 6 1991.

Over the last 15 years the Internet has revolutionised our life. In fact changed it beyond recognition.

We now chat, correspond, blog, shop, browse, listen to music, learn, work, update ourselves, have fun, govern countries, run corporations, talk to people on the moon, and much much more, via the Internet.

How has the Internet changed your life? Please do tell us.
