CBI given custody of Monica Bedi

A Special Court on Thursday ordered CBI custody for Monica Bedi, starlet girlfriend of underworld don Abu Salem, for two days to enable the premier investigating agency to interrogate her in connection with a forgery case.

CBI Special Court judge C V Subramanyam, passing orders on the CBI petition seeking custody of Monica Bedi, directed that the accused be entrusted to CBI custody for two days from 3 pm on Thursday to 3 pm on November 19.

She will be produced in the court on November 19 by the CBI and later shifted back to the women's prison at Chanchalguda in the city.

The judge also permitted Bedi's counsel to visit her during the CBI custody.

It may be recalled that Monica Bedi and Abu Salem were extradited from Portugal and brought to India last week.

Monica Bedi was shifted to Hyderabad from Mumbai on November 11 and produced at the residence of the CBI special judge on November 12. She was remanded to judicial custody till November 25 and lodged at Chanchalguda women's prison.

She faces charges under section 12 of the Indian Passports Act and sections 417, 420 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code for cheating and forgery and obtaining passport by furnishing false information.

She had secured a passport (No. B 5802508) from the Regional Passport Office, Hyderabad, in the name of Sana Malik Kamal, on September 20, 2001, furnishing false residential address as House Number 10/102 B, Babu Goundar Street, Kurnool, and her year of birth as 1974.

She claimed to have studied upto sixth standard at Sri Hanuman Higher Elementary School in Kurnool.
