The suicide bomber, who blew up an explosive-laden car outside the corporate headquarters of Jammu and Kashmir Bank in Srinagar, was a Pakistani national affiliated with Lashker-e-Tayiba outfit, a senior police official said on Thursday.

"The ongoing investigations into the car bomb blast that killed four persons and wounded scores of others, including
former minister Usman Majeed, pointed to the involvement of LET in the heinous act," Deputy Inspector General of Police, Srinagar and Badgam districts, H K Lohia told PTI in Srinagar.

The investigations also revealed that the bomber was a Pakistani who was blown to pieces in the blast, he added.

"So far we have made no arrests...but the investigation is going in the right direction and we are hopeful that we will
soon crack down on the LET module responsible for the recent spurt in violence," the DIG said.

However, he expressed surprise over reports appearing in a section of the press about sounding of red alert in the valley
following the blast.

"We are already on high alert and it is a matter of chance that they (militants) succeed sometimes in their nefarious designs," Lohia said, adding, "We continue to change our strategy to foil the militants plans. But sometimes they succeed."

On precautionary measures being taken by the authorities to avert militant attacks at public places, the DIG said his force are working on two-prong strategy to scuttle future actions of militants in crowded places.
