The first standalone trilateral meeting between the foreign ministers of India, China and Russia will enhance coordination among the three countries on major international issues and contribute to global peace and security, a senior Chinese official said in Beijing on Tuesday.

"It is a very important meeting," Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Kong Quan told reporters, commenting on the June 2 meeting between Indian External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in the far-eastern Russian city of Vladivostok.

Kong noted that China and Russia, China and India, and India and Russia have very sound bilateral relations.

"Our bilateral cooperation has been developing smoothly in all aspects. What is more important is that all the three countries have similar or identical views on promoting democracy in international relations and safeguarding world peace and stability. We also have same concerns in the international arena," he pointed out.
