Home Minister Shivraj Patil on Wednesday said infiltration in Jammu and Kashmir had declined after completion of fencing work along the Pakistan border.

Replying to supplementaries during Question Hour in Rajya Sabha, Patil said infiltration had reduced by 61 percent in the border state.

The minister added that there were problems fencing along the Bangladesh border as Dhaka had objected to fencing within 150 metres in areas inhabited by people.

He added that the first phase of the fencing work along the 4,000-km Indo-Bangla border was almost complete.

The second phase covers 2,000 kms, Patil said, adding 50 percent of the work had been completed in this phase.

In Gujarat, problems had been experienced in erecting fence due to nature of the soil, he added.
