Militants on Tuesday gunned down the chairman of the Pattan Municipal Committee in north Kashmir's Baramulla district.

Three cops, part of the PMC chairman's security detail, were also killed in the attack.

Mohammad Ramzan Mian was shopping in village Palhallan Pattan market, 29 km from Srinagar, when militants showered bullets
on him.

Ramzan Mian and his personal security officer died on the spot, while two security guards succumbed to their injuries in a hospital later in the day.

Nearly half a dozen civic representatives have so far been killed across Kashmir, while several others have resigned from their seats following militant threats.
