The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has instituted an inquiry into the helicopter crash in Saharanpur, which killed two Haryana ministers.

Agriculture Minister and Bansi Lal's son Surender Singh and noted industrialist and Power Minister O P Jindal were in the helicopter owned by the latter.

DGCA Deputy Director P K Chattopadhyay will head the probe. He has been appointed the Inspector of the Inquiry, official sources said.

Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel told reporters the helicopter was just three months old and had clocked over 100 hours of flying time.

The pilot, Col P S Chauhan, was also an experienced pilot trained in flying this chopper, he said.

Patel said the mandatory 25-hour technical checks on the helicopter were last carried out just four days ago.

He, however, said only an inquiry would reveal the cause of the accident.
