Rs 1000 cr Central fund for Mumbai

The Planning Commission has assured the Maharashtra government that Rs 1000 crore would be made available for developmental projects in Mumbai, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said in Mumbai on Wednesday.

"We have made a provision in the state budget for the same", the chief minister told the Legislative Council during Question Hour.

The amount will come from National Urban Renewal Mission funds for which an allocation has been made in the Union Budget, he added.

"We met members of the Planning Commission in Delhi to discuss Mumbai's infrastructure projects and have received a very positive response," Deshmukh said.

Minister of State for Urban Development Rajesh Tope said Mumbai contributes over Rs 40,000 crore to the central exchequer.

The state had received Rs 100 crore from the central government for Mumbai's development during 2004-05, the minister said.
