A case of intimidation has been registered against Samajwadi Party member of Parliament Amar Singh for allegedly threatening a city tabloid editor and publisher.

A case under Section 506 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (for threatening to cause death or grievous hurt) was registered against Singh and two others on February 26 by the suburban Bandra police, Deputy Commissioner of Police Amitabh Gupta said on Sunday.

The two others who have been booked are C S Bedi and Bashap Paul.

The case was registered after Chaaru Anand, editor of Page 3, a city tabloid, lodged a complaint stating that Paul had threatened her and her husband over telephone asking them to withdraw an article on the bonding between mega star Amitabh Bachchan and Singh carried in the tabloid in November.

She alleged that Paul was threatening at Singh's behest.

On March 18, a sessions court had granted interim anticipatory bail to Paul who feared arrest in the case.

However, Amar Singh termed as 'self contradictory' the charges levelled against him. "I do not see any political controversy," he told PTI. "But as a politician I am definitely a soft target," he added.
