Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen has said she will write to Congress president Sonia Gandhi regarding her plea for Indian citizenship.

Last month, Taslima had faxed her appeal for Indian citizenship to the Union home ministry.

Taslima had said she would like to live in West Bengal where she "felt at home."

"I am waiting for the Centre's response. I will wait this month and write to Sonia Gandhi next month," Taslima said.

The writer is in self-exile since 1994, when religious fundamentalists charged her with blasphemy and issued death threats against her.

"I am not seeking political asylum. I am only making an appeal on humanitarian grounds," Taslima said.

She recalled that she had written to Sonia from abroad for grant of a tourist visa to visit India in the past.

"Three months after I wrote to her, I got my visa," she said.

She added, "If writing a personal letter to Sonia helps in getting a positive response to my appeal I will do so."
