The United Progressive Alliance government has proved 'a failure' in tackling security concerns of the country, which
is evident from its handling of the Hurriyat visit to Pakistan and the increased Bangladeshi infiltration and Maoist
insurgency, the Bharatiya Janata Party said on Sunday.
"The Hurriyat leaders were allowed to visit Pakistan and returned from Islamabad without proper verification of
visas. Pakistan, on the other hand, maintained that no formal objections were registered by India in this connection. All
this has created security hazards for India", BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley said while addressing the state executive meeting of the party in Patna.
Claiming that terrorism took the 'centrestage' of the discussion when the erstwhile National Democratic Alliance government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee had held bilateral talks with Pakistan, he charged the UPA government with 'inept and inappropriate handling' of the Kashmir issue during its talks with Islamabad.
Castigating the Centre for declaring 'ceasefire' with the Maoists, he said the daring attacks of the ultras on a police station in Andhra Pradesh, house of a Rashtriya Janata Dal member of Parliament and banks at Madhuban in Bihar's east Champaran district also proved its 'intelligence and security failure'.
The influx of Maoists in fact caused a major security problem, Jaitley said.
"All these happenings in the recent past have made it evident that the Centre is too weak to handle the security of
the country", he said.
Jaitley also referred to the infiltration of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and alleged that 'the situation is further
worsening'.
