The Delhi Crime branch on Wednesday made a major breakthrough when it arrested Jagtar Singh Hawara, chief of Babbar Khalsa, along with Jaspal Singh and Vikas Sehghal in the Delhi cinema blasts case.

Tejinder Luthra, deputy commissioner of police, said the three were arrested after a hot chase in G T Karnal Road.

Jagtar was earlier involved in the assassination of former chief minister of Punjab Beant Singh.

Though he was captured in 1996, he managed to escape from Burial jail in January 2004 along with Paramjeet Singh and Devi Singh after digging a 100-feet-long tunnel that was 14 feet deep.

Pistols, over 200 live cartridges, a hand grenade, 11 kilograms of RDX, timers, detonator and a luxury car were seized from the three.

Cases have been registered against them under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Arms Act and the Explosive Substances Act.
