Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will speak to top Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leaders in an attempt to defuse the crisis created by Bharatiya Janata Party chief Lal Kishenchand Advani's resignation on Tuesday.

Advani's resignation was a fallout of Advani's statements made in Pakistan praising Mohammed Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, which came in for sharp criticism from RSS.

Sangh Parivar spokesman Ram Madhav in his statement had said Advani's utterances in Pakistan were contrary to the views of the RSS.

Pravin Togadia, VHP secretary general, had described Advani as a 'traitor'.

Vajpayee, who returned from his holiday in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, was the only BJP leader to come to Advani defence.
