Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday stormed into the state assembly with a huge margin as his party, Congress, made a clean sweep of all the three byelections in Haryana held on June 2.
The two other Congress candidates won the bypolls, riding a sympathy wave following the death of their husbands in a helicopter crash.
Hooda, a member of Lok Sabha from Rohtak constituency, humbled Indian National Lok Dal's Azad Singh Attri by 1,03,635 votes in the Kiloi assembly constituency.
Attri managed to poll a meagre 3,063 votes.
Kiran Chaudhary, a former deputy speaker of the Delhi assembly and daughter-in-law of former chief minister Bansi Lal, set a record when she romped home from the Tosham assembly constituency with a margin of 1,25,520 votes.
Another Congress nominee, Savitri Jindal, won by 1,02,280 votes from the Hissar assembly constituency.
Kiran and Savitri are widows of Surender Singh and Om Prakash Jindal, both ministers in Haryana who died in a helicopter crash in March this year.
In both Tosham and Hissar, mostly independent candidates were in the fray with no opposition party putting up any candidate.
