Delhi-Patna express blast kills 10

Ten people were killed and several others injured as a bomb ripped through a compartment of the Patna-Delhi Shramjeevi Express on Thursday.

The blast, which occurred in the toilet of the general compartment of the train, took place when the train was between Jaunpur and Sultanpur stations in Uttar Pradesh.

The train was coming from Patna, when the blast occurred at around 1725 IST in the Harpal Ganj area, about 30 km away from Jaunpur, Northern Railway sources said.

The injured were admitted to the Badlapur Hospital, Railways Assistant Director General B K Bhalla said. Senior officials have rushed to the site of the blast, he added.

Uttar Pradesh police sources said ten people had died and 35 passengers had been injured in the explosion.

On Thursday, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad announced in Patna that he would be visiting  Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh by a special train.

Confirming it was a bomb explosion, Lalu said "I am going to the site of the explosion to know the exact cause behind it."

Talking to newspersons before leaving for Jaunpur, Lalu said he had directed top railway officials to do everything to save the lives of the injured in the explosion.

Lalu also said that 22 bombs being planted in a train was a matter of concern. The bombs were spotted.Railway police and officials were asked to inquire into it and keep close a watch on suspects' activities.
