Shiv Sena rebel Narayan Rane on Tuesday resigned from the post of the leader of the opposition in the Maharashtra assembly.

The resignation came soon after Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Babasaheb Kupekar upheld Ramdas Kadam's election as the leader of the Shiv Sena Legislature Party.

Earlier in the day, a Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena delegation met Kupekar and submitted a memorandum seeking Rane's

removal from the post of the leader of the opposition.

Rane, however, told reporters he would resign on his own. "I would have done it on Monday itself but for the disruptive attitude of the legislators," Rane told reporters at the Vidhan Bhawan.

Rane was expelled from the Shiv Sena after he challenged party's excutive president Uddhav Thackeray's leadership.
