July 02, 2005 17:12 IST

United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi inaugurated the 6.5 km stretch between Kashmere Gate and the Central Secretariat of the Delhi Metro Line II on Saturday.

The inauguration of Line II marks the completion of work from Vishwavidyalaya to Central Secretariat and Connaught Place.

The frequency of the trains will be increased from Sunday. Each station will have 50 surveillance cameras, and there will be police presence at every station.

The underground stations have a temperature of 25-27°C with the help of huge air-conditioning systems. Special gen-sets have also been set-up for emergencies.

The Delhi Metro Railway System has also installed smoke-proof glasses near platforms.

The entrance to the stations will serve as subways for pedestrians. Special subways will link stations at Delhi Main with Old Delhi and New Delhi railway stations.
