Students of private schools in Bihar on Wednesday stayed away from Republic Day festivities as a mark of protest against a spate of abductions involving children in the state.

They formed human chains at several places and raised slogans demanding that two students kidnapped in the past two weeks -- Kislay Kaushal in Patna and Ravi Kant in Biharsharif -- be traced as soon as possible.

Kant, a student of the DAV Public School, was kidnapped in Biharsharif in Nalanda district on Monday. The abduction came just six days after the kidnapping of Kislay Kaushal, a student of Delhi Public School in Patna.

Even as the protests continued against their kidnapping, another student of DAV Public School in Bhagalpur went missing on Tuesday.

The office of 'Oxygen', a social outfit which is organising the students' stir, was flooded with students volunteering to join a relay fast in Patna.
