Moderate tremor off Great Nicobar coast

An earthquake of moderate intensity was felt off the west coast of the Great Nicobar island on Thursday, the India Meteorological Department said.

The tremor, measured at 5.7 on the Richter scale, occurred at 0542 IST, the met office said adding the epicentre of the quake was at 6.3 degrees North Latitude and 92.1 degrees East Longitude.

Another quake of moderate intensity was recorded off the west coast of northern Sumatra at 0627 IST. It measured 5.8 on the Richter scale and had its epicentre at 5.9 degree North Latitude and 93.8 degrees East Longitude.
