Siwan district magistrate-cum-returning officer on Friday debarred controversial Rashtriya Janata Dal member of Parliament Mohammad Shahabuddin from entering the district in Bihar for one year.

On Tuesday, Shahabuddin and four others – Janata Dal (United) MP from Maharajganj Prabhunath Singh, RJD MPs and Chief Minister Rabri Devi's brothers Sadhu and Subhas Yadav and Lok Janshakti Party leader Kali Pandey -- were debarred from entering Siwan till February 28 to ensure the peaceful conduct of the third phase of the assembly election in the state on February 23.

District Magistrate C K Anil had then ordered Shahabuddin, RJD leader Jitendra Swami and a rebel RJD leader Vikram Kuer to appear either in person or through their advocates in his court on Friday. The order against Swami and Kuer had been reserved for a future date, official sources said.

Earlier in the day, Shahabuddin was granted bail by the Patna high court in the kidnapping and murder of Communist Party of India-Marxist Leninist (Liberation) worker Munna Chaudhary in 2001.

He has been in jail for the past 18 months in connection with the case.
