The encounter between militants, who tried storm to the Border Security Force headquarters and killed a jawan Thursday, and security forces in Sopore of Jammu and Kashmir resumed Friday morning, official sources said.
The gunbattle between the two sides broke out Thursday evening in the town, 55 km from Srinagar, when militants took shelter in the building of the horticulture department after hurling a grenade on the battalion headquarters of the BSF around 1515 hours.
A BSF soldier was killed and six others, including three jawans, were injured as the force foiled an attempt by militants to storm their battalion headquarters at Sopore.
The militants initially lobbed a grenade on the troops patrolling the area wounding three civilians and then made the bid to storm the highly fortified camp taking advantage of the panic, which followed the blast.
However, the ultras fled in the face of retaliation by the troops and took shelter inside a government building nearby.
BSF personnel chased them and engaged them in an encounter.
