Demolition drive: BJP demands central intervention
December 21, 2005 17:09 IST

The Bharatiya Janata Party Wednesday demanded in the Lok Sabha immediate central intervention in the wake of vehement protests against the ongoing drive by the Municipal Corporation to demolish unauthorised structures in Delhi.

It cautioned that if the drive continued, there would be a law and order problem.

Raising the issue during zero hour, BJP deputy leader V K Malhotra said the Delhi government proposed to demolish 18,000 houses.

He said another 15 lakh houses had come up without proper authorisation.

Malhotra said the Centre should act swiftly to make necessary amendments in Delhi's master plan.

He said if the demolitions continued, many would be rendered jobless.
